Here I used the trick of two hue/saturation layers to emulate a filter and B&W paper. I think the version came out nice, but a bit washed out. I did add a subtle layer of blue tint over the top.

Gareth Lewin > Expanding on the previous image, here I played around with the levels of the image, trying to expand the mid tones, I think this works very well, and is my favorite of the set, but it wasn't what I was going for.
